ABOUT
Welcome to Vagar do Pastor, a project by the PHDD studio that is rooted in the typical rural architecture of the Alentejo region.
My name is Carlos.
When I was little, I remember frequently traveling around Portugal with my parents and already back then, being captivated by the endless golden fields of the Alentejo, the scent of rockrose filling the car windows, and the sound of sheep bells as they wandered slowly...
I grew up with the dream of one day having a project surrounded by such good feelings.
My passion for Alentejo and architecture combined with the desire to share with others a space where John Pawson’s phrase would make sense:
"Silent with its desire to be and light, the giver of all presence."
Use this house with the same affection you use your own.
Thank you for being part of this story!

THE HOUSE
The house occupies 300m² of the 2,600m² natural meadow.
The entire house is framed by the concept of vagar — an expression that means "not having to do anything," yet being fully aware of the surroundings: sheep and the Alentejo plains.
The floors are entirely made of handcrafted sun-dried clay tiles, with whitewashed walls and warm terracotta tones.
Its spaces are filled with generous natural light, always respecting the tradition and history of its setting.
The land is bathed in intense sunlight and, due to its elevation, offers a magnificent northern view of the cork oak forest (montado) and Serra D'Ossa.
All functions—common and private—are arranged on a single level, with the entrance to the house located in the central area. The layout was designed to create well-defined zones.
The entrance opens into a space that connects the living room with the dining room/kitchen.
Through both the living and dining/kitchen rooms, there is direct access to the outdoor areas, as well as through the bedrooms at the rear.
There are 3 bedrooms, one of which is a suite, and 2 of them have access to an outdoor shower.
An outdoor dining area with a barbecue connects to the natural meadow to the east.
